If there's one serious problem, it's that the game's runtime is split up into too few levels, each taking up way too long. As such, this feels more properly a Call of Duty game than its predecessor, and I vastly preferred this one as well. This game also ditches the awful borderline-Tower Defense bits from Black Ops 2, something that could have worked but most certainly did not. There's bits that feature no action for long stretches, and they're actually quite unsettling, and when the bullets fly, they were well done, ultimately. At the very least, this is also one of the better Call of Duties in regards to tone and level design, as well as being arguably the best in regards to Player Power Fantasy (that is a term, right?). The journey into the psudo-psychology of the AI is genuinely some of the smartest Sci-Fi writing I've seen in the 21st Century, and honestly, it feels like nobody but the makers of Call of Duty were interested in seeing these concepts see the light of day. 8h 39m PlayedBlack Ops 3 is quite possibly the smartest Call of Duty game ever – It's sad, because the game actually tries to play itself as being dumber than it is, but it features surprisingly profound concepts about the awakening of Artificial Intelligence, and how the “awakening” of it is not necessarily a bad thing! Think a standard Call of Duty plot structure, but fused with a more intricate version of the film 'Upgrade'.
